GASAN’S OLD MAJESTIC MUNICIPAL BUILDING – A TALE

Sometime in February 25, 1956, a young civil engineer from the Highway District Engineer’s Office, Engr. Enrique Isidro , then the Assistant Provincial Civil Engineer, sent a letter to Marinduque Congressman Panfilo Manguera recommending the renovation of then old, dilapidated and decaying wooden pre-war municipal building in Gasan which he had declared and certified “condemned and unfit for further use and occupancy and had to be replaced with a new building”. Gasan Mayor Antonio Sevilla Zoleta and the Municipal Council thus took the “necessary steps…in order that the existing municipal building be replaced with a new one”. They informed Congressman Manguera who wrote a letter to President Magsaysay about the urgency of the matter (letter dated August 14, 1956), requesting for the reconstruction of the municipal building and an “allotment of P70,000.00” for the project.
